- Fang Sujinan Jaikaew, a community Pride organizer in Khemarat District, Ubon Ratchathani, and Naruemit Ambassador 2026
- Fang has worked with children, young people, and local communities in Khemarat for nearly five years, advancing understanding of gender diversity through everyday life.
- A parade once viewed with uncertainty gradually became known as the “Diversity Parade” and later the “Rainbow Flag Parade,” reflecting the community’s growing openness and acceptance.
- Fang believes regional advocacy requires taking action with local people and context at the center, adapting ideas from Bangkok and central institutions to fit local culture and ways of life.
- Fang dreams of equality becoming “natural and automatic” and of seeing the rainbow flag flying over the Mekong River if Thailand hosts WorldPride 2030.
Fang–Sujinan Jaikaew, a community Pride organizer in Khemarat District, Ubon Ratchathani, and a Naruemit Ambassador 2026, has worked with children, young people, and local communities for four years and is now entering a fifth year of advancing understanding of gender diversity through everyday life. Fang believes that diversity has always existed naturally within local communities, where people have long lived together in harmony. As definitions introduced by wider society become more visible, creating spaces for communication and shared learning at the community level has become increasingly important.
One of the earliest challenges was shifting perspectives and language rooted in traditional ways of life. Yet the community’s progress became clearly visible through the words people used to describe the parade. In the first year, many watched with uncertainty, even though the procession consisted simply of local children, young people, and parents expressing their pride. By the second year, it became known as the “Diversity Parade,” and by the third, the “Rainbow Flag Parade.” This evolution in language offers tangible evidence of growing awareness, openness, and acceptance within the community.
For regional advocacy, Fang emphasizes the importance of taking action while placing local people and their lived realities at the center. Although information and strategic direction may be connected to Bangkok and other central institutions, they must be adapted to fit local culture and ways of life. Diversity in Thai society is not a temporary event; it is woven into daily life, culture, hospitality, and an openness toward others. Fang invites people to experience the charm of Khemarat and Ubon Ratchathani along the Mekong River—places ready to welcome everyone as safe and inclusive communities.
Looking to the future, Fang does not want people to have to keep demanding space for themselves. Instead, equality should become “natural and automatic” through structural change across the entire system—from laws and rights protections to everyday life and social attitudes. The goal is a society in which everyone can live peacefully and equally without having to negotiate for recognition of who they are.
Northeastern Thailand is also rich in cultural assets—from joyful folk music and regional languages to naturally dyed cotton textiles that embody generations of knowledge, from growing cotton and handweaving to dyeing and transforming the material into contemporary fashion with global potential. If Thailand is selected to host WorldPride 2030, Fang dreams of sailing along the Mekong River beneath a raised rainbow flag—showing the world that this border community is ready to welcome people from everywhere and presenting a Thailand that embraces diversity with warmth, vitality, and authenticity.
