Khawhom–Ariyakanta Khammai, an occupational safety officer currently pursuing a Master of Business Administration (MBA), is the Miss LGBT Thailand Friendship 2025 titleholder and a Naruemit Ambassador 2026. Khawhom is committed to using pageant platforms and public roles to advocate for equality, emphasizing that the rights being advanced are not special privileges over others but fundamental rights to which everyone is equally entitled.
As a transgender person, Khawhom reflects on the significant barriers LGBTQIAN+ people continue to face in Thai society, particularly limited employment opportunities and inadequate access to essential healthcare benefits. Coverage should include hormone therapy and other necessary medical care as fundamental benefits within the public healthcare system.
Although Thailand has successfully enacted marriage equality, two crucial areas of legislation still require sustained advocacy: legal gender recognition, which would allow people to receive legal protection consistent with their lived identities, and the right to change honorific titles, which is essential to safety and human dignity in daily life and international travel. Identity documents that align with a person’s gender can reduce stigma, discrimination, and the experience of being treated as an outsider. Khawhom also stresses the need to build public understanding that recognizing these rights does not diminish or infringe upon the rights of people of any gender.
Regarding Pride activities, Khawhom calls on government agencies and civil society organizations to share knowledge and expand advocacy beyond the capital to every region and local community. This would help people understand that Pride is not only about the spectacle of a parade; it is also about building supportive and sustainable ways of living together.
Khawhom believes that Thailand’s friendliness, hospitality, safety, transportation infrastructure, and distinctive food culture make the country well positioned to serve as a genuine safe space for visitors from around the world. Thailand is ready to be a welcoming host and proudly welcome the global LGBTQIAN+ community to WorldPride 2030.
