Khon Kaen Pride Festival

About the Pride

The Khon Kaen Pride Festival is an annual event organized by the Khon Kaen Gender Club (KKGC), led by president Puncharat Taloet. The festival stemmed from a historic provincial MOU signed by 26 districts and over 40 public and private organizations to eliminate gender discrimination. Today, it serves as a key regional platform to promote gender equality, advocate for legal recognition of gender identity (including gender markers and titles), and support Thailand’s goal of hosting international Pride events.

Each year, the festival adopts a new theme reflecting LGBTQIAN+ aspirations. The latest edition, “Pride Home Coming: Muea Ban Klab Ma Pride,” invited people to celebrate their identities in their hometowns. The event prominently blends Isan soft power—such as traditional fabrics—with the rainbow parade, advancing the vision of transforming Khon Kaen into a inclusive "Rainbow City" for creative tourism.

To realize this, the city is transformed with Pride flags and rainbow crosswalks. Key activities include a diverse Pride Parade featuring students and sex worker networks advocating for human rights, alongside educational Pride Talks and workshops on healthcare and equality. The festival also hosts a Pride Market supporting local businesses, a fashion show, and the “Miss Teen Khon Kaen Pride” pageant (ages 13–18) to empower youth self-expression.
